1. Cagan (1956) observe que l'hyperinflation offre l'opportunité unique d'étudier les phénomènes
monétaires : « Relations between monetary factors can be studied (therefore), in what almost amount
to isolation from the real sector of the economy. »

1 . En effet, afin de préserver un niveau donné de ressources réelles tirées de la création monétaire
l'Etat est alors contraint d'émettre de la monnaie à un rythme identique à celui de l'inflation, voire
même supérieur compte tenu de la contraction des encaisses réelles qui constituent la base de la taxe
inflationniste.
