Les deux temps grammaticaux de l’anglais sont le présent et le passé : present tense & preterite.
PRESENT TENSE DES VERBES LEXICAUX
Le locuteur énonce des faits bruts. Il ne dit rien sur sa façon de percevoir l’évènement.
Il sous-entend : « voici les faits ».
Cet invariant donne lieu à des EFFETS DE SENS courants :

Ex: Radcliffe passes the ball to Fernandez. He goes forward. Fernandez shoots and scores.

On remarque que le présent se conjugue, de manière très limitée.

Dans une narration au « présent historique » (historical present)

No. 4—on and bravely on until I find myself in a strange new landscape (…).At this point, I somehow
become aware of how far I am from home and abruptly lose all my taste for exploration. I turn and run

Les verbes irréguliers désignent souvent des activités très simples et très quotidiennes.
Ex : I met my wife in 1983. / We went to Spain for our holidays. / They got home very late last night.
… ou exprime vérité dans le passé :
