RÉSUMÉ
L’opinion du patient constitue un élément central d’évaluation à l’issue du traitement
orthodontique. À l’aide d’un questionnaire original mis au point par les auteurs, cette étude
a pour objectif de connaître l’avis de jeunes patients venant d’achever leur traitement ortho-
dontique actif. Deux parties distinctes composent le questionnaire : la première concerne la
malocclusion initiale du patient et la seconde comporte 30 questions propres au traitement.
Sur 120 questionnaires remis, 90 ont été récupérés et exploités, amenant à un taux de réponse
de 75 %.
Cette enquête a mis en évidence un important degré de satisfaction des patients en fin de
traitement orthodontique actif. Malgré ses aspects négatifs, les patients sont en majorité heu-
reux de débuter leur traitement et apparaissent motivés tout au long de celui-ci.
D’autre part, l’évaluation de la sévérité de la malocclusion initiale par le praticien et celle
du patient sont le plus souvent corrélées, les filles ayant plutôt une tendance à la surestima-
tion.

Results of our study indicate that there is a high degree of satisfaction among patients at the close
of active orthodontic treatment. In spite of the negative aspects of orthodontic care, the majority
of patients were happy to begin it and appeared to be motivated throughout the course of treatment.
Further, patients and orthodontists had highly correlated opinions about the severity of the ini-
tial malocclusion, with girls often tending to view the problem as more severe.
